The low ash carbon reductants from CleanCarbon are developed in close cooperation with the industry and thus especially designed for silicon metal production. The high reactivity, excellent product stability and low level of impurities in combination with a special size distribution secure a high yield and excellent quality of the final product.

Silicon metal plays an important role in the aluminum–, chemical– and electronics industries as well as an increasing role in the solar industry. Elemental metallic silicon is produced by reducing the oxide of silicon dioxide in a furnace providing a reducing agent and sufficient energy to achieve the necessary high temperature at about 2 000 0C. Like for most metals the reducing agent is carbon, however to obtain the required silicon metal qualities, tailor made carbon reductants are used with specific physical and chemical properties.
